January 21, (THEWILL) – Mexican football club, Pumas UNAM, has terminated the contract of Dani Alves, the former Barcelona defender, after he was arrested on sexual assault charges.
The 39-year-old was arrested in Barcelona on Friday, after it was alleged that he sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub bathroom.
Alves, who has also played for Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla, has denied the allegations. The public prosecutor’s office has requested that he be detained and not granted bail.
Pumas UNAM confirmed on Friday, that they had terminated Alves’ contract, with club president, Leopoldo Silva, releasing a statement on the matter. Alves had joined the Mexican side in 2022, after his second spell at Barcelona came to an end.
