July 06, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain have made their first signing of the transfer window by finalising the move of Milan Skriniar on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old Slovakia defender agreed to a five-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions after his contract with Inter Milan expired in June. Skriniar, who joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2017, amassed nearly 250 appearances in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Italian Super Cup during his time at the club. Despite being linked with a move to PSG in January, a deal could not be reached before the transfer window closed.
Skriniar’s final season in Italy was hampered by injuries, causing him to miss more than 20 games across all competitions, including the UEFA Champions League final. Expressing his thoughts on joining PSG, Skriniar acknowledged the pressure that comes with joining a prestigious club like Paris St Germain: “There is always pressure when you join a club like Paris St Germain. I feel it a little bit. But I feel that I am ready, ready to be part of this very big club. I like pressure. I’m a defender, so we know what it’s like, you always have to be ready.”
The signing of Skriniar marks the first move made by PSG since the appointment of Luis Enrique as manager, replacing the former manager Christophe Galtier. Skriniar’s arrival is expected to strengthen PSG’s defense, bringing valuable experience and skill to the team. With his impressive track record in Serie A and international football, Skriniar is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
