July 05, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has beefed up security at its office in Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, ahead of the planned protest against the anti-graft agency.
According to The Nation, operatives of the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit – Rapid Response Squad and men of the Department of State Services (DSS), with patrol vans, heavy anti-riot gun trucks and Black Marias, have been dispatched to all the routes leading to the EFCC Office.
The spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, earlier warned of plans by some groups to protest against the EFCC.
On Wednesday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), disclosed that 4,000 of its personnel nationwide had been mobilised to track the activities of a group organising the protest.
“A group has been recruiting young Nigerians, including students, through social media to protest against the EFCC’s operational activities, particularly in enforcing cybercrime laws.
“The promoters of the uprising seek to destabilise the country and cut short investigations into their nefarious activities”, Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of NOA, said in a statement.
