March 01, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison could miss up to a month of action due to a knee injury, manager Ange Postecoglou revealed on Friday, in yet another fitness blow as the North London club look to reclaim a top-four English Premier League spot.
The Brazilian forward had been in stellar form recently, netting 11 goals, including 10 in the league, but sustained the issue during a 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Richarlison is out for three to four weeks. He picked up a bit of a knee problem in the last match,” Postecoglou told reporters ahead of Saturday’s fixture with visiting Crystal Palace. “It’s disappointing as he’s been a key player for us but that’s how our season has gone. We’ll have to compensate for him being out,” he added.
Postecoglou also said Ryan Sessegnon has suffered a setback after undergoing surgery on his right hamstring this week. The wing-back has struggled with numerous muscle injuries over recent seasons. “It’s tough, it’s through no fault of his own, he’s worked hard to come back,” Postecoglou said.
Tottenham are currently fifth on the table, five points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa with a game in hand. Postecoglou said the two-week break after losing at home to Wolves was not helpful. Spurs did not play last weekend as scheduled opponents Chelsea were involved in the League Cup final.
“It’s been a very disruptive season for us, apart from the first 10 or 11 matches. We had momentum and rhythm,” Postecoglou said, adding: “We’ve had stops and starts to our campaign. At least, after the international break, we’ll have regular football until the end of the year.”
