June 04 (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur are nearing the appointment of Ange Postecoglou , the current manager of Celtic, as their new head coach.

Postecoglou is said to be in pole position to replace Antonio Conte and finalisation of the deal is expected in the coming days. Since Postecoglou’s appointment in 2021, the Australian tactician has enjoyed remarkable success at Celtic, leading the team to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title in his debut season and successfully defending it en route to a domestic treble.

The achievements of the 57-year-old extend beyond his time at Celtic, having experienced triumph with various teams in his homeland, including Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, as well as Japan’s Yokohama F. Marinos. Despite his recent Scottish Cup success, the manager declined to commit his future to Celtic, stating, “I anticipate enjoying this moment for the next 24-48 hours, as long as I can, before someone drags me away and takes my attention away from enjoying something that’s been hard-earned.”

Spurs have been without a permanent manager since Conte’s departure in March. The club, which finished eighth in the English Premier League, has been actively seeking a candidate who can initiate cultural change and re-energise their style of play. Initially, Arne Slot was a leading contender for the position but opted to remain at Feyenoord. Other options considered by the North London club included Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.

THEWILL recalls that Conte left Spurs by mutual consent, shortly after criticising his players as “selfish” in a heated outburst following a 3-3 draw against Southampton. Since then, assistant coach Cristian Stellini and later Ryan Mason served as interim head coaches, with the latter finishing the season with only two victories out of six matches.
