Policemen Batter Pastor’s Son To Death For Killing A Dog

SAN FRANCISCO, September 17, (THEWILL) –  Three policemen serving at the Mobile Police Training Camp, Gwoza, Borno State, have battered to death the son of the pastor attached to the camp.

The victim of the police brutality, Solomon Adamu, was said to have hit at a dog that had frequently barked at him and the dog was reported to have died as a result of the kick .

The three policemen, who have since been dismissed from the Police because of their action, were said to have been infuriated by the death of the dog as they were said to have subjected the 30-year-old Adamu to severe punishment and battering which eventually led to his death.

Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawal Tanko, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Tuesday, said though Adamu’s father had expressed his unwillingness to prosecute the dismissed policemen, the Police Force will be going ahead with their prosecution.

Tanko said the prosecution of the case was not for the deceased’s father to determine as it was a criminal case and under the purview of the state.

He disclosed that decision to prosecute the case was informed by the need to uphold the Inspector General`s transformation agenda and zero tolerance for  indiscipline and corruption in the Police.

Tanko noted that the dismissal of the officers will further serve as deterrent to others, disclosing that the accused had already been charged to court.

The commissioner also solicited the support of the  journalists in the ongoing  efforts to  restore  peace  to the state, saying  both the police and journalists are working for the betterment of the society.
