Police Rescue Abducted UNTH Security Man, Step Up Operation To Free Matron

March 13, (THEWILL)- Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, have rescued a security man abducted alongside a senior matron, on Tuesday morning, at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.

THEWILL earlier reported that a senior matron serving with the UNTH Enugu was abducted on Tuesday morning, by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

Chairman of, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), UNTH Chapter,  Dr Augustine Duru, who confirmed the incident, said the senior matron (name withheld for security reasons), was kidnapped in the same spot where a medical doctor was kidnapped some weeks ago in the teaching hospital.

In a statement on Tuesday,  the Spokesperson of the Enugu Police Command,  ASP Daniel Ndukwe, said a security man, abducted alongside the senior matron, was rescued at Ishi-Ozalla in the same Local Government Area at about 11:45 pm, on Monday.

Ndukwe stated that the freedom of the security man followed the intense operations immediately launched to rescue the victims and apprehend the assailants.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has ordered the Police Operatives and the complementary teams from the Neighborhood Watch Group, Forest Guards and Local Vigilantes, to ensure that everything is done to rescue the female nurse and arrest the hoodlums”, Ndukwe said.

The CP also enjoined the public, particularly residents of the Ituku-Ozalla community and environs to report any suspected individuals found within their residential areas or in the forest.
