August 01, (THEWILL) – On Thursday, the Initiative For Better And Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), Plateau State, joined the nationwide protests against hunger and economic hardship.
Led by Convener, Prophet Isa El Buba, the protesters marched peacefully from the Secretariat junction to the old Airport Roundabout, displaying Nigerian flags and placards with inscriptions such as “There is hunger in the land”, “Bring back fuel subsidy” and “Reverse electricity tariff”, “Enough is Enough”.
The protesters demanded the reversal of the removal of fuel subsidy, the reversal of the high electricity tariff and the reduction of the high cost of living. Despite the government’s rejection, the protesters were determined to make their voices heard.
Security operatives were present to guide the protesters and ensure that the protest remained peaceful.
Other protesters also assembled at the British American roundabout in Jos, where most shops were closed in solidarity with the protest.
The protests in Plateau State were part of a nationwide demonstration against the government’s harsh economic conditions and anti-people policies. The protesters vowed to continue their agitation until their demands were met.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has dispersed some youths who tried to break into a store along Zoo Road in the state capital.
The youths, who attempted to force their way into the two-storey building housing Sadaraki Stores, destroyed the windows of the building before the arrival of security operatives.
