August 17, (THEWILL) – Alex Pereira will defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree Jr. in the co-main event of UFC 307 on October 5 in Salt Lake City. This will be Pereira’s third fight of 2024, following victories over Jamahal Hill and Jiří Procházka earlier this year.
The event’s other title bout will feature Raquel Pennington defending her women’s bantamweight championship against former titleholder Julianna Peña. Pennington aims to retain the belt she won in January by defeating Mayra Bueno Silva.
Pereira, the 37-year-old Brazilian, has an 11-2 professional record. His opponent, Rountree (19-5), last fought in December, knocking out Anthony Smith. Rountree recently completed a two-month suspension for using a banned substance.
Peña (10-5) will compete for the first time since losing her title to Amanda Nunes in July 2022. Nunes subsequently vacated the championship, which Pennington (16-8) now holds.
UFC CEO Dana White announced these matchups on Friday, setting the stage for an action-packed event in Utah’s capital city this autumn.
