October 06, (THEWILL) – Alex Pereira retained his UFC light heavyweight title with a fourth-round knockout victory over Khalil Rountree Jr at UFC 307 in Las Vegas.
The Brazilian champion weathered early difficulties, including being dropped by a counter right hand in the second round. Rountree’s speed and striking initially troubled Pereira, forcing the champion to adjust his strategy.
Pereira turned the tide in the third round by implementing devastating calf kicks to slow Rountree’s movement. The fourth round saw Pereira unleash a brutal combination of body shots and an uppercut that ultimately led to the stoppage.
The former middleweight champion addressed speculation about moving to heavyweight during his post-fight interview. Pereira confirmed he would remain at light heavyweight, citing his training partnership with current heavyweight champion Dricus Du Plessis.
This victory marks Pereira’s second successful defence of the light heavyweight title since claiming the belt in 2023.
