Penalty Drama Sparks Nottingham Forest Fury Against EPL Refereeing

April 21, (THEWILL)- Nottingham Forest have threatened to take action against the English Premier League and refereeing officials after a controversial 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday. The club accused the video assistant referee (VAR), Stuart Attwell, of being a Luton fan and claimed they were denied three clear penalties during the match.

In a fiery statement released on X, Forest said: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

The crucial clash at Goodison Park saw Everton goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil condemn Forest to their 15th league defeat of the season. However, the Midlands club felt aggrieved by several incidents involving Everton defender Ashley Young, which they believe should have resulted in penalties.

The first incident saw Young make contact with Giovanni Reyna’s foot in the box, while the second involved a cross hitting Young’s outstretched arm. Forest’s final penalty appeal came when Young appeared to foul Callum Hudson-Odoi in the area.

The defeat leaves Forest precariously positioned just one point above the relegation zone with seven games remaining. They missed an opportunity to capitalise on Luton’s heavy 5-1 loss to Brentford the previous day.
