BEVERLY HILLS, May 17, (THEWILL) – The organized labour in Ekiti State has threatened to embark on an industrial action in protest of deductions from workers’ salaries by the state.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday jointly signed by the state Chairmen of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Ade Adesanmi; Trade Union Congress, Odunayo Adesoye and Secretary of Joint Negotiating Council, Oladele Blessing.
The group revealed that it has given Governor Ayodele Fayose 24 hour ultimatum to pay workers’ Salary deductions for the month of December, 2015 or face industrial action.
They also expressed regret over the delay in the payment of deductions despite the agreement reached with the government at the stakeholders’ meeting of May 9, 2016.
“It must be noted that the state government has collected state allocation for the period of December 2015, January, February and March 2016 with internally generated revenue inclusive and yet government is running away from its responsibility on payment of workers’ monthly gross salary, which is far from our expectation from a worker friendly governor,” the statement read.
“In view of this, we are constrained to request for the payment of the 2015 December workers’ deduction within 24 hours, so as to avoid industrial unrest in Ekiti State.”
