July 17, (THEWILL) – Paris Olympic organisers have announced that 1.2 million tickets remain available for the 2024 Games.

The majority of these tickets are for football, basketball, and handball events. Team sports, particularly football, have struggled to sell out their allocated venues.

From Thursday, more than 50,000 new tickets will be released for over 30 sports. These include highly sought-after seats for swimming and athletics finals. The Paris Games have already set a record for ticket sales, with 8.7 million sold, surpassing the previous high of 8.3 million at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Over 60% of tickets have been purchased by French buyers. However, organisers faced criticism when tickets were first released in 2023 due to high prices, which seemed to contradict the promise of a “people’s Olympics”.

Despite this, the Paris Games have achieved unprecedented ticket sales. The release of additional tickets for popular events provides another opportunity for fans to attend the Olympics.

Mickael Aloisio, Deputy Director General of the Paris Olympics, provided these updates to reporters. The Games are set to begin just over a week on July 26, with organisers working to fill the remaining seats and ensure a successful event.
