August 01, (THEWILL) – An immigration officer accidentally shot himself in the foot while blocking protesters in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Thursday.

The self-wounded officer was part of the security team deployed to disperse the crowd of protesters in the state capital, Maiduguri.

THEWILL gathered that the officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, and his condition is currently unknown.

However, the sound of the gunshots further provoked the protesters, who went wild with the thought that one of them was shot but became calm upon discovering that it was an immigration officer who was shot.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions, the protesters condemned what they described as the government’s poor handling of the ongoing insurgency in the north. They also decried the current economic hardship in the country.
