October 19, (THEWILL) – Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen marked his return from injury with a spectacular goal as Galatasaray defeated Antalyaspor 3-0 in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.
Osimhen, who had been sidelined since mid-September, came off the bench in the 77th minute with his team already two goals ahead. The 25-year-old thought he had scored shortly after coming on, but his effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
However, Osimhen was not to be denied. In stoppage time, he found the net with an acrobatic bicycle kick that sealed the victory for the Istanbul club. The goal underwent another lengthy VAR check before being confirmed, much to the delight of the travelling Galatasaray supporters.
Earlier, Argentine forward Mauro Icardi had put Galatasaray in control with two first-half goals. The win keeps Galatasaray in contention at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table as they pursue their first league title since 2019.
Osimhen’s return to fitness will be welcome news for both club and country. The forward had missed Nigeria’s recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to his injury. Galatasaray’s next match is a UEFA Europa League encounter against Elfsburg on Wednesday.
