May 05, (THEWILL) – Napoli have been crowned champions of Italy for the first time since the 1989/1990 season, after winning the 2022/2023 Serie A title.
Their extraordinary season, led by head coach, Spalletti, and his team of Neapolitan heroes, including leading goal-scorer, Victor Osimhen, has come to a triumphant end after a long, enduring 33-year wait.
The team’s star striker, Osimhen, has been instrumental in their success with 21 goals from 26 Serie A appearances this season, putting him on track to become the first ever Serie A African capocannoniere, by winning the golden boot. Meanwhile, Khvicha Kvaratskehlia has made an impact with 22 goal contributions since his arrival from Dinamo Batumi in July.
The supporting cast in the rest of the entire squad have also been in magnificent form, with a perfectly balanced midfield and a solid defense. The victory means that manager Spalletti becomes the oldest to lift the trophy as manager at 64. The triumphant squad is heading back to Naples tomorrow, where hundreds of thousands of supporters are expected to welcome them home.
The team has been accompanied by at least 14,000 fans at the Dacia Arena, while another 50,000 have gathered at the Stadio Maradona to watch the game on big screens. Napoli’s victory has been a long time coming, and their fans will be more than eager to celebrate their historic triumph after being forced to postpone it at their last game.
