December 05, (THEWILL) – The Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC), has announced its Team of the Year for 2023, with players from S.S.C. Napoli making up nearly half of the 11-man squad. The team is comprised of the best performers in Italy’s top football league, Serie A, over the past campaign.
Napoli secured five places in the 2023 AIC Team of the Year, underlining their domestic dominance last season. Inter Milan and AC Milan, contributed three representatives each to fill out the remainder of the team. In addition to the Team of the Year, Napoli also picked up the awards for Club of the Year, Coach of the Year (Luciano Spalletti), and Goal of the Season (Khvicha Kvaratskhelia).
The 2023 AIC Best XI features a 4-3-3 formation. The back line includes one player from each of the big three clubs, with Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo at right-back. Kim Min-jae of Napoli also got the nod at centre-back, next to Milan left-back Theo Hernandez and Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
In midfield, Inter is represented by Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella, alongside Napoli anchorman, Stanislav Lobotka. Up front, Napoli boasts last season’s capocannoniere Victor Osimhen as striker, supported by Serie A MVP Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left wing and Milan playmaker, Rafael Leao on the right. Mike Maignan of Milan rounds out the team between the posts.
The AIC Team of the Year recognises the standout performers in Italian football over the past year. Napoli’s strong presence highlights their Scudetto-winning form throughout 2022 and 2023 under ex-manager Luciano Spalletti’s guidance.
