We woke up on Monday 30th July, 2018 to another episode of impunity in the soap opera of the Failed APC Federal Government. Impunity is now the name of the game. They are desperate to surpass all previous records of lawlessness.
We watched in shock as hundreds of policemen besieged the Benue State House of Assembly with a motive to execute a senseless coup.
A few days earlier, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris transferred the State Commissioner of Police on the orders of the Presidency to pave the way for sacrilege at the Benue State House of Assembly. A new Police Commissioner working with the DSS executed the coup
With armoured vehicles and sophisticated weapons, the security forces granted access to eight APC Lawmakers and stopped 22 PDP lawmakers from gaining entry into the Benue State House of Assembly.
The 8 Legislators loyal to the Presidency could not form a quorum. Yet they were instructed to commence the process of impeachment against Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State. The entirety of the illegality is already in the public domain.
Indeed, the crime of Governor Ortom was his decision to decamp to the PDP in the face of the failure of the APC . Even though President Muhammadu Buhari said he is not bothered about the defections, what happened in Benue State indicated otherwise.
What happened in Benue State is a further wake up call to all Nigerians. It started in Rivers State, moved over to Ekiti State and now it has reached Benue State. The use of security forces to rob the mandate of the people is here with us. We have no choice but to deal with it.
Some are trying to rationalise it. Some are trying to justify it. But what is illegal is illegal. The frequent use of security agencies to destroy the foundations of democracy by the APC Federal Government is an unfortunate promotion of dictatorship .
Even the EFCC has been invoked by the APC Federal Government to assist in the fight against Dr Samuel Ortom. I am told that EFCC leaked a report to the media alleging that the Benue State Government laundered N20billion. In the coming days, more of such politically motivated blackmail will be heightened by the APC Federal Government.
Several officials will be arrested and hurriedly arraigned to drive home the anti-Ortom agenda. This notorious style is the best dictatorial technique of the failed APC Federal Government.
Nigerians must stand firm. This evil wind of dictatorship will sweep across the landscape as the APC Federal Government struggles to steal the people’s mandate.
Through courage, this ugly and failed APC Federal Government will be swept away alongside its evil broom. Nigeria is witnessing unlimited impunity, but it is just a matter of months before Buhari is officially sacked for his non-performance and official recklessness.
