April 29, (THEWILL)- Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu, stole the show as Trabzonspor registered a 4-2 victory over Gaziantep FK with a flurry of goals in the second half. Onuachu netted a hat-trick and also provided an assist in the Süper Lig encounter.
The 28-year-old opened the scoring in the 50th minute before Bardhi doubled the lead in the 65th. Onuachu then netted twice more in quick succession in the 66th and 68th minutes to complete his treble. Bardhi’s goal was also set up by the prolific Nigerian, as he finished with a hand in all four of Trabzonspor’s goals.
Remarkably, Onuachu achieved this hat-trick feat within just 18 minutes, becoming the first Trabzonspor player to score a treble since Alexander Sörloth in January 2020. For Gaziantep, Sorescu and Draguş found the net in the 12th and 21st minutes respectively.
Onuachu’s performance was even more impressive given it was his first Süper Lig appearance in over two months after recovering from an injury sustained in the Turkish Cup. The Nigerian international last featured in the league on February 25 against Adana Demirspor before being sidelined.
Though he made a cameo in the Cup semi-final first leg versus Fatih Karagümrük, this was Onuachu’s first start in the league in six games since returning to the matchday squad roster.
