February 23, (THEWILL) – Olumide Akpata wins Edo State Labour Party Governorship primary, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, has won the primary election of the Labour Party for the September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State.

Akpata won the primary election held in Benin City, the state capital, on Friday.

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu declared Akpata winner of the primary after he polled 316 votes to defeat other aspirants.

THEWILL reports that the emergence of Akpata has set the stage for a tough, high-profile 3-party race in the Edo State governorship poll.

Earlier, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared Asuen Ighodalo and Senator Monday Okpebholo as their candidates respectively.
