June 15, (THEWILL) – A multi-million naira edifice that will house all classes of displaced and less privileged children has been established in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The building, which was funded by the spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), His Holiness, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, will be named the Mother Elizabeth Esu Olumba Obu Redeemed Children Home.

The ultramodern edifice, which is the first of its kind in the state, will be spearheaded by the Universal Women’s Fellowship, an arm of the BCS.

The centre is situated on 8 plots of land in Enang Ahe Community in Parliamentary Extension in Calabar Municipality and its construction lasted one decade, beginning in 2013.

International President of the women’s group, Matriarch Victoria Imowo, said the massive humanitarian project followed the formal recognition of the home by UNICEF and the Cross River State Government in 2015.

Matriarch Imowo said the need to house at least 380 children together in a much more conducive complex informed their decision to erect the 3-storey 400-bed edifice.

She equally described the home as a humanitarian edifice, a symbol of hope for the vulnerable and a place of refuge for children and the destitute.

She added that the home is fully incorporated as a government-recognised and registered Care Home in 2010.

Matriarch Imowo further said facilities in the building include a chapel, well-equipped children’s library, children’s playground, an ultra-modern kitchen, state-of-the-art laundry facilities, and handlers’ lodge.

Also speaking, Spokesman of the Organisation, Dr Amah Williams, said the home underscores the commitment of Leader Obu to practically demonstrate the ideals of love, compassion, selfless services to humanity and charity that he preaches daily.

He explains why the BCS leader supports humanitarian works in many countries to lessen the burden of the depressed and afflicted.

He said the home dates back to the Nigerian civil war when children were abandoned within the church premises, stressing that the Organisation is still committed to the welfare of displaced people.

He informed that the welfare home is not limited to Nigerians and will soon be replicated in other states in Nigeria as well as other countries.
