August 09, (THEWILL) – Barcelona have completed the signing of Spain international Dani Olmo, from RB Leipzig on a six-year deal. The 26-year-old returns to the club where he spent seven years as a youth player before departing in 2014.
Olmo’s move comes after an impressive Euro 2024 campaign, where he played a key role in Spain’s victory. His performances earned him a spot in UEFA’s team of the tournament alongside five of his national teammates.
The versatile midfielder leaves Leipzig after four and a half years, during which he made 148 appearances and scored 29 goals. Olmo helped the German side win two DFB-Pokal trophies and the DFL-Supercup, establishing himself as a fan favourite.
In a social media post, Olmo expressed his gratitude to RB Leipzig, saying: “A young club, a young player… We grew up, won our first trophies and made history together. Two Cups and the Super Cup are just some of the many unforgettable moments that will always stay with me. Thank you, RB Leipzig, you will forever be in my heart.”
The transfer marks a significant addition to Barcelona’s squad, with Olmo bringing both international experience and a deep understanding of the club’s philosophy from his time at La Masia. His contract with the Catalan giants runs until June 2030, signaling a long-term commitment from both parties.
