October 11, (THEWILL) – Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has disclosed that the list of screened candidates contesting for chairmanship positions in the November 16, Local Government Election in the state would be out on Monday, October 14, 2024.
OGSIEC’s Chairman, Mr Babatunde Osibodu, made this known while addressing newsmen on Thursday at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital, shortly after screening some candidates contesting on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Osibodu divulged that the screening exercise went on smoothly as the verification of candidates was zoned into the three senatorial districts so as to make the process flawless, insisting that no candidate of any political party would contest in the election without being screened.
He maintained that OGSIEC would conduct a free and fair election across the 20 council areas, saying the political parties and the people could place their trust in the commission for the conduct of a credible election
”I have said it a hundred times, trust the process, I guarantee you that at the end of it, everybody will see that we are fair”, Osibodu said.
The Commissioners at OGSIEC, Mr Tunji Akoni, while speaking during the exercise, motivated the candidates to liaise with electorates directly and make sure they campaign to the grassroots level to win their councils.
While speaking separately on the screening, candidates including Mr Babatunde Diya (Odogbolu LG), Mr Azeez Balogun (Abeokuta South LG), Mr Theophilus Olorode (Imeko Afon LG) lauded OGSIEC for conducting the screening in a remarkable way.
