June 02, (THEWILL) – The Ogun East Senatorial Candidate for Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewale Adenaike, has vowed to beat former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in the forthcoming 2023 election.

Recall that Daniel emerged the winner for Ogun East Senatorial primary election of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state recently.

But, addressing newsmen shortly after being declared the winner of SDP senatorial primary election, held at Sweet Sensation, Abeokuta, Adenaike boasted that he would beat Daniel and retire him from politics.

The former Special Assistant to Minister for State Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who described Daniel as ‘spent force’, said he was not fit to become a senator of Ogun East, because he failed to develop the constituency as governor for eight years.

He stated that Daniel, being the candidate of the ruling APC, had nothing to offer the people of Ogun East, except to retire himself in the senate as ex-governors of state in the country do.

Adenaike, while saying that the people needed new brains like him to develop the constituency, promised to give them people-oriented representation, if elected as senator.

He, therefore, called on his opponent, Adewale Shokoya, whom out of 45 delegates, he defeated with 28 votes against 17 and party’s members in all the 20 Local Government Areas and 236 wards to work for the success and progress of the party in his constituency and state come 2023 election.

“What do you mean how I am going to beat Daniel? Daniel is beatable and I am going to retire him from politics, and he knows exactly that is what is going to happen. He is a spent force, therefore we need new hands, new ideas, people who know exactly what they want to do, not people who want to go to the senate to retire there.”

“As an executive governor for eight years, there is nothing he wants to do for Ogun East that he couldn’t have done when he was the governor of the state, it is not about retirement, because all the governors have begun to retire into our senate.”

“I have great plans for the people of my constituency, because it has come to a time that we are going to have people oriented representation, no longer go and do what you like, it is what the people want that we want to do as far as I am concerned, it is important that we work with the people who had voted for us who have instil their confidence in us. Therefore, there is a need for us to begin to showcase our people and the strength that we have in the community”, he added.
