March 17, (THEWILL) – Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has distanced the state government from “flurry of statements and comments” on social media by “mischief makers”, hiding under the pretext of the verbal outburst between the governor and his counterpart in Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.
The Governor in a statement he personally signed on Thursday, condemned what he described as irresponsible behaviour aimed to stir crisis and disaffection within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The statement reads: “There has been a flurry of statements and comments on social media by mischief makers, who are hiding under the pretext of the ongoing conversation between leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stir crisis and cause disaffection.
“These statements and irresponsible behaviour are outrightly condemned. We hereby distance ourselves from the actions of these detractors.
“The National leadership of the party is already dealing with the issues and we are open to the harmonious resolution of whatever concerns that may arise.”
THEWILL had reported that the feud between Obaseki and Wike followed the calls by the Rivers State governor for disciplinary action by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against the Edo deputy governor, Philip Shaibu for threatening to dump the party.
Obaseki in his reaction to the manner in which his Rivers counterpart addressed the issue, had warned that the Edo people will never accept any overlord from anybody, adding that the PDP is not Wike’s personal property. A reaction that had further infuriated Governor Wike, calling his Edo counterpart, a “serial betrayal.”
However, the verbal outburst by the two leaders had generated reactions, prompting the leadership of the PDP to sue for peace between the governors.
