January 10, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Youth Coalition (NYC) has disclosed plans to convene a national parley, aimed at addressing the issue of rotational presidency in the country.

NYC National President, Aare Oladotun Hassan, who made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, in Abuja, said the parley is slated for Monday, January 16, 2022, at the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) House, Abuja.

With the theme: “Rotational Presidency: A Beacon of Hope and Unity”, Hassan explained that the event was specifically chosen to correct the erroneous misconception that the North is hellbent on retaining power in 2023.

He said this is against the background of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, after a keenly contested primary election.

He said, “However, Tinubu having won the Primary election, we saw droves of APC Northern Leaders decamping to the PDP to give support to Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential bid, while Atiku himself has not hidden his hatred for power shift to the South by saying the North Should not vote for Yoruba and Igbo. This to us is a huge taint against the Northern aspiration in future Elections.

“We know President Buhari-led administration will hand over power on 29th May, 2023, but to whom?

“A Northern continuity or balance of rotational power to the Southwest? This is why the Nigerian Youth Coalition (NYC), a coalition of the Northern and Southern Groups alongside Omoluabi Coalition Group, led by Tunji Balogun, is interested in proffering solutions through constructive engagements on the need for national balance and the need for rotation of power.

“We believe it is right to bear our heart out and speak the truth that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the support of all Nigerians, having paid his dues and aggressively fought the Military regime for the Democracy we are seeing today.

“Based on this premise, we shall be working closely with the APC Presidential Campaign Council leadership and office of the National Youth Leader of the party to achieve a successful hosting.

“We have carefully selected all our distinguished invited guests and stakeholders from all walks of life to be led by President Muhammadu Buhari as Distinguished Special Guest of Honour; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima both as Special Guests of Honour.

Plateau State Governor, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, Hon. Abiodun Falake and Chris Taka, will be Grand Hosts, while Seyi Tinubu, Dayo Israel, Madam Betta Edu and Governor Yahaya Bello will serve as Hosts.

Speakers at the parley, according to the statement includes Alhaji Yerima Shettima, Barrister Oladotun Hassan, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Alhaji Hamisu, Dass Engr Mohammed Awal Ibrahim, Khairat Animashaun, Charles O. Folahan, Hon. Femi Sowunmi, Ayodele Adewale, Memunah Audu, Com. Terry Obeih, Alh. Abdulaziz Sulaiman, Com. Dauda Gombe.
