August 30, (THEWILL) – Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has signed a new three-year contract with South African club Chippa United.

The 28-year-old’s decision comes after his standout performance for Nigeria at the recent Africa Cup of Nations where he helped the Super Eagles reach the final.

Nwabali’s new deal includes an improved salary package and the role of team captain for the upcoming season. This appointment recognises his leadership qualities and influence on the pitch.

Following his impressive displays at the Africa Cup of Nations, Nwabali attracted interest from clubs in England, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, and several top South African teams. However, he opted to remain with Chippa United, where he has been playing since 2022.

The goalkeeper narrowly missed out on the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper award to South Africa’s Ronwen Williams. Despite this, his performances established him as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Africa.

Nwabali’s decision to stay with Chippa United demonstrates his commitment to the club and his desire for continuity in his career development. His new role as captain is likely to bring added responsibility and influence both on and off the field.
