December 20, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of Nuno Espírito Santo as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract. The 49-year-old Portuguese returns to English football after a two-year hiatus following his short four-month tenure at Tottenham Hotspur.
Nuno has been without a club since leaving Saudi Pro League side, Al-Ittihad, in November. He now takes charge at Forest, who currently sit five points above the English Premier League relegation zone. His first match will be the crucial clash against Bournemouth this Saturday.
The appointment comes after Forest sacked the previous head coach, Steve Cooper, on Tuesday. Cooper had managed just one win in the last 13 league matches, prompting the club to take action amidst relegation fears.
Nuno is a familiar face in English football, having previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2017-2021. He guided the club from the Championship to a 7th-place EPL finish in his first top-flight season. His experience will be invaluable for Forest as they battle to avoid a return to the second division this season.
The City Ground club hopes Nuno can replicate similar success and ensure their top-flight status for next season. With over half the season still to play, he faces a tough challenge to turn results around.
