Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses Twice In 24 Hours

October 15, (THEWILL) – The national power grid has collapsed once again, less than 24 hours after it suffered system failure on Monday evening.

The latest incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 09:17 a.m. At about 10 a.m., supply from the grid dropped abruptly to 0MW across all regions, plunging several states into another round of power outages.

The incident marks the second grid collapse in less than 24 hours and 7th this year.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed the system collapse in a message to customers.

“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network. We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored”, it stated.

Recovering from Monday’s grid failure, power supply was distributed across several Distribution Companies (DisCos) on Tuesday, with Abuja allocated 44MW, Benin 35MW, Eko 62MW, Enugu 40MW, Ibadan 85MW, Ikeja 72MW, Jos 10MW, Kaduna 15MW, Kano 20MW, Port Harcourt 23MW and Yola 11MW.
