July 06, (THEWILL) – The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), has announced plans to organise the President Tinubu National Championship, a cycling tournament commemorating President Bola Tinubu’s 100 days in office.
Femi Thomas, a former cyclist and CFN board member, revealed that the championship would showcase Tinubu’s achievements in sports during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State. Additionally, Thomas touched on the importance of government and corporate support for the national team’s preparation for the upcoming World Cycling Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, stressing the need for improved infrastructure, athlete welfare, and sponsorship to elevate cycling in Nigeria to international standards.
With the National Cycling Team already in a training camp in Abuja for over two months, the CFN is leaving no stone unturned to ensure Nigeria’s success in the forthcoming World Cycling Championship. Thomas called for support, saying: “There is also need for partnership between the government and corporate bodies in putting in place the necessary measures to motivate cyclists to perform well.”
He also pointed out the need to establish necessary mechanisms for motivating cyclists to perform at their best. Additionally, Thomas underscored the President Tinubu National Championship as a unique opportunity for organisations to promote their brands and invest in Nigeria, with the event serving as a platform to project the country’s potential.
