Nigerian Sprinter Ajayi Shines In Olympic 100m Heats

August 03, (THEWILL) – Nigerian sprinter, Kanyinsola Ajayi, made a strong statement in the men’s 100m heats at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ajayi won heat 5 with a time of 10.02 seconds, ahead of defending Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy.

Jacobs finished second in 10.05 seconds, followed by Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu in third with 10.06 seconds. The performance puts Ajayi in contention for a medal and brings him closer to breaking the 10-second barrier.

Other top sprinters also advanced to the semifinals. USA’s Noah Lyles, despite a slow start, finished second in his heat with 10.04 seconds. Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, the fastest man this year, won his heat comfortably in 10.00 seconds.

British champion, Louie Hinchliffe, impressed by winning his heat in 9.98 seconds. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, the second-fastest man this year, also progressed by winning his heat in 10.08 seconds.

The semifinals and final of the men’s 100m will take place on Sunday at the Stade de France, with the world’s top sprinters vying for Olympic glory.
