Nigerian Goalkeeper Uzoho Apologises For Poor Reaction To Criticism

October 19, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Francis Uzoho has apologised after responding unprofessionally to criticism over his recent performances. The goalkeeper made high-profile errors in friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique earlier this month.

Uzoho was at fault for Saudi Arabia’s late equaliser after parrying the ball into his own net. He also looked shaky in the 2-1 win over Mozambique, leading to calls for him to be dropped. The 23-year-old initially hit back at critics by saying: “If e easy do am, make oyinbo man sign you.”

However, Uzoho has now admitted his reaction was not appropriate. In a statement he posted on social media on Thursday, he wrote: “I apologise for this as it was not my intention to conduct myself in such manner toward the fans who have supported and motivated me.”

The Omonia Nicosia stopper acknowledged accepting criticism is part of his job. He promised to continue improving and said fans are “vital” to his growth. Uzoho will hope to regain trust ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign beginning next month.
