February 16, (THEWILL) – The Super Eagles are billed to face off against the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau in their Matchday 3 African Cup of Nations qualifier on March 24.
The game will be played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, according to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). However, the date and location for the second match are yet to be determined by Guinea Bissau’s Football Federation.
Guinea Bissau have been playing their AFCON qualifying matches away from home due to the lack of an approved international stadium. Despite this setback, the team is still in the running and currently occupies second place in Group A, with four points. Nigeria leads the group with six points following a resounding 10-0 win over Sao Tome in Morocco’s Stade d’Agadir.
The Guinean Government, Football Federation, and society at large are eagerly awaiting the final report from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspector’s work. The report will determine if CAF and FIFA games can be held in the country.
The inspection took place on September 24, with the national stadium in Bissau expected to host the African Cup of Nations qualifier between Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria in March, if the report is positive.
