Nigeria Faces Familiar Foes In 2025 AFCON Draw

July 04, (THEWILL) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the qualifying groups for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with Nigeria drawing significant attention. The Super Eagles find themselves in Group J alongside Rwanda, Libya, and Benin, setting up some intriguing matchups on their road to Morocco.

Nigeria’s recent encounter with Benin in a World Cup qualifier, which resulted in a surprising defeat, adds an extra layer of intrigue to their group. The Super Eagles will also face Rwanda, a team they are scheduled to meet in World Cup qualifiers in March 2025, providing valuable preparation for both tournaments. Libya rounds out the group, presenting another challenge for the West African giants.

While Nigeria takes centre stage, other notable draws include South Africa in Group K with South Sudan, Congo, and Uganda. Defending champions Ivory Coast will compete in Group G against Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad, while seven-time winners Egypt are set to face Cape Verde, Mauritania, and Botswana in Group C.

AFCON QualifiersThe qualification matches are scheduled between September and November 2024, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals. Host nation Morocco, automatically qualified, headlines Group B alongside Gabon, Central African Republic, and Lesotho.

As the Super Eagles aim to reassert their dominance on the continental stage, all eyes will be on their performance in this crucial qualifying campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
