Nigeria, Brazil Record Highest Climbs In Latest FIBA Women’s Rankings

September 13, (THEWILL) – In the latest FIBA Women’s ranking, Nigeria climbed seven places to 11th with 528.9 points after dominating the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2023, winning the trophy for the 4th consecutive time.

Like Nigeria, Brazil soared seven spots to rocket back into the top ten at 8th position on 612.6 points, following their stunning victory at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023, where they beat the USA Women’s team in the final. The South American giants claimed a record-extending 6th AmeriCup title.

Fresh off their historic triumph at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023, Belgium have moved up one position to equal their highest ever ranking of 6th. With 654.6 points, they have jumped ahead of France into 6th place and are less than a point behind 5th ranked Canada in an unchanged top five. China won the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 and remain firmly in 2nd position.

While Mali had to settle for 3rd place in the AfroBasket, their consistency has been rewarded with a huge leap of 13 spots to 16th with 362.1 points. Silver medalists Senegal also climb 11 places to 316.3 points and take the last top 20 berth. Elsewhere, Hungary’s strong EuroBasket showing vaults them back into the top 20 with a rise of 5 places to 19th on 342.5 points.

Germany, returning to the EuroBasket after 12 years, excelled on their comeback, propelling them up 11 spots to 25th on 298.5 points. Finally, Iran achieved an impressive 26 place rise to 52nd after making the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Division B 2023 final to move to 135 points. This ranking used adjusted Competition and Region Weights based on performance over the past 8 years.
