August 29, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government of Nigeria signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, to enhance the nation’s aviation sector.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Nigeria on Wednesday, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN) and Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek.

Nigeria, Boeing Sign MoU A statement issued on Thursday, by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant on Media and Communications, to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said the initiative aims to facilitate the acquisition of aircraft for Nigerian airlines, improve aviation infrastructure and elevate operational standards within the industry.

The signing ceremony took place in Seattle, Washington, in the United States, with key figures from the Nigerian aviation sector in attendance.

Notable stakeholders at the signing included executives from major Nigerian airlines, the top management team of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and representatives from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

Nigeria, Boeing Sign MoU The agreement is seen as a significant advancement in boosting Nigerian airlines’ operational efficiency and safety while positioning them for greater growth in the global aviation market.

According to the statement, the MoU will assist Nigerian airlines in acquiring a new generation of aircraft through Boeing’s extensive network of financiers and lessors, thereby modernising their fleets.

Additionally, Boeing will provide technical support to help integrate new or used aircraft into existing operations smoothly.

The agreement also encompasses provisions for comprehensive training in airline operations and business models, aimed at improving Nigerian airlines’ operational efficiency and business practices.

Nigeria, Boeing Sign MoU In addition, Nigerian airlines will gain access to Boeing’s vast resources, including maintenance documents, engineering drawings, parts purchasing, and flight operations documents.

This access is expected to streamline maintenance practices and reduce operational downtimes.

Overall, this partnership between the Federal Government and Boeing is anticipated to significantly modernise the Nigerian aviation sector, enhance safety and efficiency, and position Nigerian airlines for greater success in the global market.
