September 01, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United claimed a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Sunday, continuing their unbeaten run in the English Premier League. The home side displayed strength for most of the match, while Tottenham’s sporadic attacks kept the outcome uncertain at times.

The match began with Newcastle applying early pressure, as both Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes sent strong attempts towards Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario. However, neither shot found the back of the net. Cristian Romero appeared to score for Spurs but his effort was ruled offside, leaving the score at 0-0.

A brief pause occurred when assistant referee Ian Hussin suffered a hamstring issue and was replaced by fourth official Darren Bond. Following the break, Tottenham surged forward, testing Nick Pope with multiple shots. Despite the pressure, it was Newcastle who broke the deadlock, with Barnes finding the far corner of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead before halftime.

The second half saw Spurs equalise quickly, as Son Heung-min capitalised on a mistake from Pope, resulting in Dan Burn inadvertently scoring an own goal. With the match level, Tottenham seemed to gain momentum. However, the introduction of Jacob Murphy revitalised Newcastle’s attack. He raced down the pitch and set up Isak, who calmly finished to restore Newcastle’s lead at 2-1.

Newcastle maintained their advantage for the remainder of the match, heading into the international break without a loss so far this early in the season. Tottenham will now prepare for the upcoming north London derby, where they will look to bounce back against city rivals Arsenal.
