December 26, (THEWILL) – Leicester City suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United in a traditional Boxing Day English Premier League match.

Both teams had been in good form heading into the encounter, but it was Newcastle who started the stronger, taking the lead in the first 90 seconds through a penalty kick. Chris Wood blasted the spot kick straight down the middle to give the visitors an early advantage.

Newcastle doubled their lead just seven minutes later, with Bruno Guimaraes setting up Miguel Almiron to score while Leicester struggled to get into the game. In the 32nd minute, Joelinton met an in-swinging corner kick with a well-timed header to increase the Newcastle advantage.

The Foxes improved in the second half and even ended the game with two strikers but only managed to get their first shot on target in the 83rd minute. The loss ended Leicester’s good run of form and saw them drop down the league table, while Newcastle maintained their strong start to the season and moved up to second place.

On Friday, Leicester will play their next game on the road at Anfield against Liverpool, and on Saturday, Newcastle will host Leeds United.
