January 23, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United and Chelsea are both preparing to make opening offers for Everton’s Anthony Gordon.

Last week, Everton were ready to consider offers for the 21-year-old forward, as they had failed to come to an agreement over an extension to his contract, which is set to run until 2025.

On their part, Newcastle have been doing their due diligence on Gordon and have been pleased with the reports that have come back on him. Magpies boss Eddie Howe admitted he would like players with English Premier League experience coming into his squad this month, and Gordon does offer that with over 60 top-flight games under his belt.

Everton need to bolster their finances this month in order to bring in other players, such as Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma, and Gordon is one of those they can use to raise funds. Gordon was the subject of bids from Chelsea in the summer, and interest remains while the Blues are keeping abreast of developments with Newcastle, along with other EPL clubs such as Aston Villa, Leicester and Nottingham Forest.

Interestingly, Gordon may not be the only Everton player that Newcastle and Chelsea go head-to-head on as they have both also asked about midfielder Amadou Onana.
