New Moon Unseen, Ramadan Fast Continues

SAN FRANCISCO, July 04, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged Nigerian Muslims to continue the Ramadan fast on Tuesday because the new moon had not been sighted as at Monday night,

Sa’ad Abubakar III, the NSCIA President-General, on Monday night, announced that the new moon of Shawwal had not been seen in Nigeria, and asked Muslims to observe the eid prayers on Wednesday.

The council had envisaged the sighting of the moon to be between Sunday and Monday, which made the Federal government declare Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays.

With the new development, Wednesday, July 6, will be the eid-el-fitr day.
