September 08, (THEWILL) – The Netherlands began their Nations League campaign with a convincing 5-2 victory over Bosnia at the Philips Stadion on Saturday.
Joshua Zirkzee, making his first start for the Dutch team, opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Bosnia equalised through Ermedin Demirovic, but Tijjani Reijnders restored the home side’s lead just before half-time.
Cody Gakpo extended the Dutch advantage early in the second half. Bosnia’s veteran striker, Edin Dzeko, pulled one back, setting up a tense finish. However, late goals from Wout Weghorst and Xavi Simons sealed the win for the Netherlands.
The match marked the Dutch team’s return to action following their semi-final appearance at Euro 2024. Coach Ronald Koeman used the opportunity to refresh his squad, with an eye on the 2026 World Cup.
