NCF To Host 22nd Annual Flagship Lecture May 28

May 24, (THEWILL)- The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), the foremost environmental NGO dedicated to nature conservation and biodiversity resources management, is set to host its annual flagship policy and advocacy lecture tagged Chief S.L. Edu Memorial Lecture, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

The Director General of NCF, Dr. Joseph Onoja, who disclosed this in a statement, noted that the 2024 edition, with the theme:  “Carbon Credits: Opportunities and Pitfalls”, is the 22nd in the series. The lecture will be delivered by Mr. Kevin Juma, Africa Climate Director, The Nature Conservancy, Nairobi Kenya.

The Memorial Lecture is an annual event organised by the NCF in collaboration with the Family of Late Chief S.L. Edu, founder of NCF, with the support of Chevron Nigeria Limited. For over two decades, the Foundation has, through renowned speakers, brought environmental issues to the fore while articulating solutions for them.

The Memorial Lecture will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help – The Hall, 16 Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island, Lagos at 11:00am.

Onoja said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour, adding that the audience will comprise members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, policymakers, academia, researchers, top government representatives, environmental and sustainability stakeholders, students, and local and international press among others.

Speaking further, he said, “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Rising temperatures and changing weather patterns are putting our planet’s biodiversity at risk, which in turn threatens the vital ecosystem services that we rely on for survival. But there’s hope! The lecture will open our eyes to how to handle the situation smoothly.

“The Memorial Lecture, which is a free hybrid event, will also feature two PhD grantees that will be awarded grants worth millions of naira being sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited.”
