April 03, (THEWILL) – AC Milan delivered a dominant performance as they thrashed Serie A leaders Napoli 4-0 in a stunning upset at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

Rafael Leao was the hero of the night as he scored two brilliant goals, opening the scoring with a lobbed one-on-one finish before doubling up with a powerful effort on the break. Brahim Diaz also contributed with a close-range strike, while Alexis Saelemaekers sealed the victory with a fine solo goal for the Scudetto holders.

The absence of Serie A’s leading marksman Victor Osimhen due to injury proved costly for Napoli as they lacked cutting edge despite applying plenty of pressure. Giovanni Simeone missed the first clear chance and the home side’s defence was left all at sea by Milan’s lightning breaks.

The result saw Milan move up to third in the table, taking advantage of Inter’s loss to Fiorentina. Stefano Pioli’s men will now shift their focus to the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie, hoping to carry the momentum from their impressive victory over Napoli.

Before then, however, Napoli will face Lecce on Friday, while Milan will take on Empoli in their next fixture on the same day.
