August 18, (THEWILL) – Napoli Manager, Antonio Conte, apologised to fans after his team’s 3-0 defeat against Hellas Verona in Serie A on Sunday. The 55-year-old took full responsibility for the loss, which saw Napoli concede three goals in the second half.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Conte said, “We immediately let Verona have a shot at the start of the second half, and in the second instance we went behind. Then we melted like snow in the sun.” He acknowledged the need to apologise to Neapolitan supporters for the poor performance.
The defeat highlighted significant challenges for the 2023 champions, with Conte admitting extensive work is required to bring Napoli up to his desired standard. He emphasised his enthusiasm and desire to help the club improve, stating, “If I can help Napoli, I will.”
Conte also hinted at potential transfer activity before the window closes, saying, “On the market, one, two, three, four could arrive, as many as the club wants to sign.” He stressed the importance of addressing the team’s issues head-on, recognising they may not be easily resolved.
The loss to Verona marks a difficult start to Napoli’s 2024 campaign, putting pressure on Conte to turn the team’s fortunes around quickly. With the transfer window still open, fans will be keen to see if new signings can help revitalise the squad and improve their performance in upcoming matches while paying attention to what may become of the transfer rumours around Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen.
