Napoli Back To Winning Ways With Victory Over Struggling Verona

October 21, (THEWILL) – Napoli got their Serie A title defence run back on track with a 3-1 away win against struggling Hellas Verona on Saturday afternoon. An underwhelming run of form has seen Napoli suffer a home defeat to Fiorentina previously, but they bounced back with an assured performance to consolidate themselves in fifth place.

Matteo Politano opened the scoring for Napoli in the 27th minute with a volleyed finish from an unmarked position at the back post. Georgian forward l, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, then netted either side of half-time to give Napoli a commanding lead. His first came just before the interval after a rapid counterattack, while the second arrived 10 minutes into the second half courtesy of another Politano assist.

Verona managed to pull one back through Darko Lazovic on the hour mark, capitalising on some sloppy Napoli defending from a cross. However, despite chances for both sides later on, the hosts were unable to spark a dramatic comeback as Napoli held on for a 3-1 win.

Napoli manager, Rudi Garcia, will be relieved to get back to winning ways after their recent blip in form and in the absence of injured star forward Victor Osimhen. Meanwhile, Verona’s struggles continue as they remain winless in six matches.

The victory sees Napoli stay in touch with the leading pack in what is shaping up to be an enthralling Serie A title race this season.
