May 01, (THEWILL) – Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down an offer from Chelsea to return for a third stint as manager in favour of staying with Roma in Serie A.
According to reports monitored by THEWILL, Chelsea approached Mourinho about the possibility of returning to Stamford Bridge, but were told that he only had interest in staying in Serie A. Mourinho’s contract with Roma runs until 2024, but he has already been linked with potential moves to PSG, the Brazil national team and Al-Nassr.
Chelsea have been struggling without a permanent manager, and caretaker boss Frank Lampard has already overseen five straight defeats that have left the team in 12th place in the English Premier league table and completely out of contention for European places. Despite reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with the job, a final decision on the new manager has yet to be made.
The Stamford Bridge club has lost 11 of their 26 EPL matches since parting ways with Thomas Tuchel, which is as many as they lost in their 63 games under the German between January 2021 and September 2022.
Chelsea will face Arsenal in the EPL at the Emirates on Tuesday and they will be hoping for a first win for Lampard as they seek to turn their fortunes around after their recent struggles and end the season on a high. However, with the managerial situation still uncertain, it remains to be seen whether they can even make that happen.
