June 2, (THEWILL)- Jose Mourinho was officially unveiled as the new manager of Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, on Sunday, in front of thousands of passionate fans at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

The 61-year-old Portuguese coach signed his contract alongside chairman, Ali Koc, receiving a rapturous reception from the travelling supporters. During the ceremony, Mourinho whipped up the fervour of the crowd by waving the club’s famous yellow and navy blue jersey.

He addressed the fans directly, stating: “From the moment I met President Ali Koc and understood his ideas and projects, I wanted to play for you, I want to be the coach of all of you… From the moment I signed my contract, your dreams are now my dreams.”

Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title last season, accruing an astonishing 99 points but still finishing three behind eternal rivals Galatasaray. Chairman Koc expressed his delight at capturing Mourinho, declaring: “He is one of the best coaches of world football history. I’m sure he’ll be the winner coach here, as he had been in other clubs in the past.”

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid manager had been without a club since his dismissal from AS Roma in January. His arrival in Istanbul was teased dramatically by Fenerbahce across social media throughout Sunday, building anticipation amongst the fanbase. Mourinho explored the city and even took a helicopter tour over the Bosphorus strait.
