December 14, (THEWILL) – Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s national airline, said on Wednesday that certain special flights provided by its Qatari counterpart to Doha for spectators of the World Cup semifinal had been cancelled.
Morocco became the first African or Arab nation to advance to a World Cup semi-final, defeating powerhouses like Spain and Portugal along the way. In the second semi-final, Morocco will play France on Wednesday night in Doha.
Thrilled fans purchased airline tickets from Casablanca to Doha, and many of them have already arrived. However, they do not yet have their match tickets, which they were supposed to receive upon arrival from the Moroccan football federation.
After Morocco advanced to the semifinals, RAM decided to schedule 30 extra flights between Casablanca and Doha on Tuesday and Wednesday. But, on Wednesday, a RAM statement read: “Following the latest restrictions imposed by the Qatari authorities, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) regrets to inform clients of the cancellation of their flights999 operated by Qatar Airways”
No fewer than 2,100 fans will be affected by the cancellations but the 23 additional flights run by RAM are still scheduled.
