August 02, (THEWILL) – Morocco claimed a commanding 4-0 victory against the USA in their Olympic football quarter-final match in Paris. The Atlas Lions dominated the game from start to finish, keeping their hopes alive for their first Olympic medal in men’s football.
Ilias Akhomach of Villarreal tested USA goalkeeper Patrick Schulte early on. Morocco’s pressure paid off when Nathan Harriel conceded a penalty for fouling Soufiane Rahimi. The Al Ain forward converted the spot-kick, scoring his fifth goal of the tournament.
The USA struggled to respond, with Miles Robinson missing a key opportunity just before the hour mark. Morocco quickly capitalised, doubling their lead through Akhomach after a well-worked move down the left flank. Achraf Hakimi added a third goal shortly after, scoring on his home ground at the Parc des Princes.
El Mehdi Maouhoub completed the rout with a late penalty, sealing an impressive performance from Morocco. The victory sets up a semi-final clash against either Japan or Spain for the North African side.
