July 20, (THEWILL) – Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata, has completed a move to AC Milan from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €13 million. The 31-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Italian club, ending his tenure at Atletico after scoring 58 goals in 154 appearances.
Morata arrives at Milan fresh from captaining Spain to victory in the European Championship last Sunday. The forward brings a wealth of experience, having previously played for Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea. His trophy cabinet includes two UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga crowns, and two Serie A championships.
The transfer marks a return to Serie A for Morata, who enjoyed success with Juventus between 2014 and 2016. During his time in Turin, he won the league twice and lifted the Coppa Italia on three occasions. His stint at Chelsea also saw him claim Europa League and FA Cup honours.
AC Milan will hope Morata’s goal-scoring chops and big-game experience can boost their chances of challenging for domestic and European honours. The Rossoneri are looking to build on their recent Serie A triumph and make a stronger impact in the UCL next season.
Neither club disclosed the full financial details of the transfer. However, reports suggest Milan activated a release clause in Morata’s Atletico contract worth approximately €13 million.
